BCCAACN 2010 President's Newsletter Stand Tall!
Hello and welcome Broward County AACN members - welcome as we begin another exciting year! I am very proud to serve as your BCCAACN President for
2010-11. Before getting down to business, let me introduce myself. Many of you may know my name but you may not "know" me. My nursing background began with
a 16 year journey involving three cross-country moves through three nursing schools, and the births of my two fantastic daughters before I finally graduated from the State
University of New York at Binghamton with my B.S. in Nursing in 1991. After a few more years in upstate New York, my husband and I moved our family to Davie, FL
and I began work in the CCU/CVICU at Broward General Medical Center in 1995. I completed my M.S. in Nursing Education at Florida Atlantic University in 2006 and
immediately began working as a clinical instructor there. After two more years of part-time/pool work at BGMC, I left the critical care bedside for the equally
challenging academic arena. I am now devoted full time to helping nurture the next generation of nurses at FAU.
As you might infer from my background, I am very committed to education. Nursing is the type of job that requires us to keep abreast of the newest information so we can
provide the best care for our patients and their families. The Broward County Chapter of AACN is committed to helping provide that timely knowledge to help
improve the quality of acute and critical care nursing in our area. With that in mind, we will continue our tradition of monthly educational meetings on the first Thursday of the
month. We will also continue to move around Broward County holding our meetings at the various hospitals that support our mission and try to continue to include
restaurant meetings as fun and reward when possible! Please bookmark our website at www.beaconmgmt.com/bccaacn so our meeting information is always just a click
away.
On May 19 at the 2010 NTI in Washington, D.C., Kristine Peterson our new AACN President unveiled her theme of Stand Tall. As she so eloquently put it, Stand Tall
means to recognize the unique and indispensable role nurses play. We need to recognize it, understand it, articulate it, own it, accept responsibility for it, and celebrate it. We are all asked to: Stand Tall – be proud of what you do. Stand Tall
– speak up. Stand Tall – together we can do more. Stand Tall – own the outcomes of your work and Stand Tall – enjoy what you do!
To Stand Tall and be the best chapter possible, we need to hear from you. We want to know your needs and thoughts. I invite you to e-mail me at annecd115@aol.com or anyone on the Board of Directors with your ideas about how we can improve our
chapter or our educational offerings. You can reach any of us by clicking on our name from the "Directors" tab of our website.
Before I close I have one request of you. I ask all our members who receive this newsletter to please forward it on to a fellow nurse you know who is not a member. It
takes just a minute to forward this e-mail and by passing it on, we may generate new interest in our chapter.
I look forward to hearing from you. Here's to a great year Standing Tall.
Sincerely, Anne C. Dahnke MS, RN, CCRN BCCAACN President 2010-11
